Dear People of St. Patrick Parish,
Last Sunday, the Gospel told us of Jesus giving the parable of the
injured man, assisted by the Good Samaritan traveler who went above and beyond to help the man needing help. The Samaritan treated the man with
mercy and Jesus told all of us to go and do likewise.
The teaching that Jesus gave calls us, if we really love God and want to get to heaven, that we are to go and do the same.
We are to love our neighbor who is someone a loving God has created and wants to have that person in heaven, but that person can choose to go against God love the Devil and give up His right to eternal life.
How does God show His love to us? In the first reading He allows Abraham who is about 99 years old and his wife Sarah 90 years old, to have a child in their old age. A reminder that all things are possible with God.
Today’s Gospel shows Jesus enjoying friendship with Martha, Mary and Lazarus in their home and talking and eating and showing love and care.
Human nature kicks in and Martha spends her energy on cooking, serving and does not spend time listening to Jesus talk about God the Father, and teach about why God has sent Him to earth.
Well, Mary sits at the feet of Jesus and listens to Jesus talk about God the Father. Do we listen to the Bible readings at Mass and let them instruct us? Or do worry about so many things in our lives.
Martha tells Jesus to make Mary go to the kitchen and help her. Jesus tells her that Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken from her.
Do we let sports games relace Mass for us and our children? Do we let the call of gambling tables keep us from going to Mass? Do we gripe and complain about Mass so that it discourages others from going to Mass?
True love is how we react to one we should love – God – family – neighbors – co-workers – friends and even complete strangers.
God Bless,
