October 27, 2024
Dear People of St. Patrick Parish,
This last week of October 27, has so many opportunities for us to be close to God and Jesus and helped by the Holy Spirit, to reflect upon our Christian lives.
Thursday, October 31, is Halloween, a time to trick or treat, wear a costume that may look scary or as in an older time those who were in a Catholic schools wore a costume like an angel, saints, priests, bishops etc. on that day.
Friday, November 1, is All Saints Day. A Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics and we are
expected to go to Mass. We honor all the proclaimed Saints in Heaven and also all our family members, friends, etc. who lived a good Christian Life, and we believe they are now with God in Heaven. Yes, they can and do pray for all of us still here on earth. The love they had for us here on earth is even greater in Heaven and they do intercede to God for us and await our joining them in Heaven.
Saturday, November 2, is All Souls Day, when we remember all our beloved dead. The souls in Heaven can also pray for us. The souls in Purgatory waiting to still get into Heaven can pray for us. Out of love we pray for their souls to soon reach Heaven. That is why we pray for all our beloved dead during the month of November at all Masses.
We also reflect that we do not want to join the souls in hell. Let us make sure that we do not end up there.
God Bless,
